In June, I returned to King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC) for the first time in over a decade. Back in 2012, when I was living in nearby Rabigh, we used to drive over just to grab a slice at the local Pizza Hut—simple memories that still make me smile. I was sad to learn it had recently closed, but wow… KAEC has grown up.
Today, it’s home to MBSC (Prince Mohammad Bin Salman College of Business and Entrepreneurship), as well as another university focused on tourism and hospitality. The city has matured into a peaceful and well-planned destination with stunning Red Sea views.

I stayed at The Views Hotel, a sleek and upscale property that typically caters to long-term residents but made for the perfect weekend getaway. Each morning I strolled along the corniche, enjoying the fresh sea breeze and calm waters. By sunset, I’d find myself there again—watching the golden horizon light up the sky. It’s a slower pace, the kind that resets you.
KAEC also features Bay La Sun Hotel, a larger full-service option, and a growing collection of restaurants along the corniche. Add to that the high-speed train connecting you to Jeddah Airport in about 40 minutes, and it’s easily one of the most accessible escapes from the hustle of Riyadh or Jeddah.
With plans underway for KAEC to support upcoming World Cup events and large-scale conventions, the city continues to position itself as a rising destination in the Kingdom. Whether you’re seeking serenity or a new corner of Saudi to explore, KAEC delivers.
Getting There:
🚗 By car: About 1 hour from Jeddah
🚄 By train: Around 45 minutes from Jeddah Airport via Haramain High-Speed Railway
