Figlbak: How Did I Miss This Place?!

I’ve been living in Riyadh since 2015—and I genuinely thought I had a pretty good handle on the local food scene. That was until this week, when I finally walked into Figlbak for the very first time… and left wondering: how on earth did I not discover this gem sooner?

Tucked into the city like a delicious secret, Figlbak serves up authentic Saudi flavors with a modern twist—and honestly, it blew me away.

I went with friends for an early dinner and we grabbed a cozy table in the back. The atmosphere was warm, understated, and welcoming—perfect for relaxed conversation and good food. But let’s talk about the food, because wow.

We started with the Traditional-style fresh vegetable salad, which was crisp and refreshing. Then came the Grape Leaves Fatteh—layered with yogurt-tahini, drizzled in date molasses—and I’m not exaggerating when I say it was the best I’ve ever tasted. Every bite felt like comfort and creativity rolled into one.

The White Cheese Samosa, rolled in dukkah and thyme, was unlike anything I’ve seen across the Kingdom. Crunchy, herby, and completely addictive. The Crispy Fries with a trio of chef’s sauces hit that salty, indulgent note you always hope for with fries.

But the showstopper? The Slow-Roasted Lamb Shoulder on sourdough with spicy honey tahini sauce. I mean… come on. It was tender, flavorful, and totally unforgettable. Paired it all with a Shaked Yogurt Drink, which somehow made everything taste even better.

Of course, we couldn’t skip dessert. We shared both the Milk Cake with Cream and Pistachio and the Milk Saffron Cake with Whipping Cream—each rich, fragrant, and beautifully presented. Every bite felt like Eid came early.

Service? Spot on. Friendly, attentive, and made us feel like we were regulars.

Figlbak is now officially in my Riyadh rotation. Whether you’re hosting guests or just looking to treat yourself, this is the kind of spot that makes you proud to be exploring Saudi cuisine from the inside out.

So take it from someone who waited far too long—don’t sleep on Figlbak. You’ll thank me later.
